Though each country has its own restrictions, generally the following items should be avoided in the shipment:
• Liquor
• Firearms and ammunition
• Foodstuffs including herbs and spices
• Hazardous materials including adhesives, detergents, disinfectants, dyes, flammables, gas cylinders, insecticides, mercury thermometers, paints, photographic chemicals

Before the moving team arrives, do ensure that you:
• Dispose of any items you do not wish to take with you
• Clear out the garage, loft, and basement
• Disconnect and defrost refrigerators and freezers
• Drain washing machine
• Remove fixtures and fittings from walls

For security reasons, many countries no longer accept shipments that are packed by the owner. In addition, any damage incurred to items you pack yourself may not be covered under transit insurance. It is therefore advisable that a moving company is engaged to pack all of your household items and personal effects.
